Peter Tarczy-Hornoch, is an elected Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and an elected member of the Society for Pediatric Research. He serves as the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education (BIME) and Head of the Division of Biomedical and Health Informatics. He serves as: Co-Director for the University of Washington (UW) BHI Research Training grant; Director of the Biomedical Informatics (BMI) Core of the local CTSA - the Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS); Chief, Research and Data Integration, UW Medicine Information Technology Services; Associate Director/BMI Core Lead of the Northwest Institute of Genetic Medicine. He teaches the required medical school course HuBio 590 Medical Information for Decision Making. Dr. Tarczy-Hornoch’s own research has included: a) real time biomedical instrumentation control system, b) bench research and mathematical modeling of liquid ventilation, c) clinical information systems, d) electronic clinical knowledge resources. His current foundational research in collaboration with computer scientists focuses on data integration of biomedical and health data including looking at ways of handling semi-structured data, representing uncertainty at various levels in the system, and doing computerized reasoning over integrated data.
