Summer Interns 2015

Dima M. Aref

Dima is a Senior student at New Jersey Institute of Technology majoring in Bioinformatics , and minoring in Information Technology. She works in the medical field as an IT administrator. Dima is aiming to start her grad studies next year. Her research focuses on data mining, and data analyzing. Dima enjoys traveling, cooking, and outdoor sports.

Rodrigo Gama Baptista

Rodrigo is a senior Biomedical Informatics student at Federal University of Parana, Brazil. He is currently studying abroad through the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program, a scholarship and grant awarded by the Brazilian government's president office. He took Fall semester of 2014 at City University of New York and the Spring semester of 2015 at Arizona State University. Some of the areas that Rodrigo is interested in include, but are not limited to, mobile development, web development, artificial intelligence, data visualization, and big data. In his spare time, Rodrigo likes going outdoors, playing and watching soccer, videogames, movies and TV series.

Natnatee "Ko" Dokmai

Ko just graduated from the University of Virginia with B.A. in Computer Science and Mathematics, and will be joining Indiana University at Bloomington this fall semester for the PhD program in Computer Science. He has been working in a security group at the University of Virginia for two years with a focus on security and cryptography. His past experience includes secure multi-party computation, oblivious transfers extension, and homomorphic encryption. He is also interested in machine learning and statistical learning. In his free time, Ko enjoys longboarding, cooking Thai food, singing, playing video games, watching Netflix, and reading and writing about politics.

Michele Dow

Michelle earned her Master in Bioinformatics from Boston University in May, 2015 and is joining the Ph.D. program of Biomedical Informatics in September. Her main research interests lie in disease genetics and the development of clinical data analysis tools. She enjoys sketching, painting, traveling, swimming, and chocolate chip cookies.

Dong Han

Dong received his B.S. degree from South China Agriculture University. He is now a Master candidate at University of Oklahoma - Tulsa, and majoring in electrical and computer engineering. His research interests include machine learning, CUDA, apple application using swift, image processing and Nature Language Processing.

Yerlan Idelbayev

Yerlan has received his bachelor in Information Systems (IITU, Kazakhstan) and currently studying masters degree in Computer Science at UCSD. His research interests are Machine Learning, Neural Networks and Information Retrieval.

Chao Jiang

Chao Jiang received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Northwest A&F University in July 2014. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree at the
School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in University of Oklahoma-Tulsa, and expects to graduate in the summer of 2016. His research interests include high performance computing and machine learning.

Pallavi Ravindra Rao

Pallavi, a graduate student of Health Informatics from Univeristy of California Davis and also a student analyst at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. After completing Bachelors in life sciences and a diploma is Bioinformatics and Clinic Research, worked in Quintiles for six months before moving to the United States to pursue Masters. Interested in structured health data capture, improved patient outcomes and population health. Current thesis research involves studying the impact of cultural barriers in telemedicine delivery. Loves travelling, reading books and listening to music.

Suyash Rathi

Suyash Rathi is a second year Masters student at Syracuse University, majoring in Computer Science. His area of interests are Distributed Systems, Machine Learning and Data Mining. Outside of school he enjoys hikes and adventure sports.

Li Shen

Li Shen is an undergraduate student who is pursuing his bachelor degree of Bioengineering in Donghua University, China. His research interest mainly lies in using bioinformatics models to find out the biomarker of disease. And he has been working in the field of autism for about two years. Also, he is interested in data mining and machine learning. In his spare time, he likes playing video games, going outdoors and  playing soccer. He is a crazy fan of AC Milan!

Haoyi Shi

Haoyi is a master student in Computer Science from Syracuse University. He comes from China, and earned his bachelor's degree at Xi'an Jiaotong University. His research interests include Secure Multi-party Computing, Nature Language Process and Machine Learning. He enjoys playing tennis and table tennis.

Daniel Garcia Ulloa

I am Research Assistant and Ph.D. student at Emory University, and I am very excited to join iDash under the supervision of Xiaoquian Jiang to build a recommender system for datasets.

Lu Wang

Lu Wang is currently a Ph.D. student in Statistics at Oregon State University (OSU). She works as a graduate research assistant at OSU Graduate School and Extended Campus to help with data analysis. Her research interests include nonparametric regression, polynomial spline smoothing, production frontier estimation and high dimensional data analysis.

Lei Yang

Lei Yang earned his Bachelor degree in Information Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University in Xi'an, China in July 2004. He earned his Master degree at the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China in July 2007. After the graduation, he joined 3i-systems corps and worked as a software engineer in mainland China. From 2010 to 2012, he enrolled in Hiroshima University doctorate course and worked as a research graduate. From Spring of 2013, he started the study in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He was a summer graduate researcher in the Department of Imaging Physics in University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Summer of 2014. His current research interest are in the areas of machine learning techniques specifically on the topic of deep learning. In iDASH group, he will focus on the time series data analysis using deep neural network.
